Anchored by remarkably committed performances and powerful ensemble
work, The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side manages to explore
familiar conflicts between bohemianism and the unrelenting reality of
present-day, hyper capitalist New York City without being overly
simplistic, cloying or cliche. SceneDowntown caught the closing
performance of the month-long extension of this critical and box office
hit at PS 122. We only wished we had seen it earlier in the run so we
could encourage everyone we know to see it. With the show's transfer to
off-Broadway, we acted immediately to coordinate a SceneDowntown AMBUSH
to see the show.
